Farms ages 7 and 8 year olds
Farm Spring Updated Rules
The Farms Division will play a 4 run or 4 walk rule per inning for the regular spring season.
An inning will end when a team either scores 4 runs or has gone through their lineup(equal at bats).
An inning will end if a pitcher gives up 4 walks in an inning. That pitcher may return next inning.
These rules do not apply in the last inning of a game.
These rules will not apply in the playoffs. Playoff rules will be discussed prior to the playoffs.
Coaches will be allowed to coach from the field, behind the pitching mound and or behind 2nd base.
Farms Division Ages 7-8-9(2nd-3rd grade)
The Farm division is for 7-8 yrs. old's(2nd-3rd grade) who have completed 2 full seasons (spring and fall or 2 spring ) at the rookie division and are age eligible. Before players are allowed to play at this level they are evaluated and given a rank between 1-5. Only 7 year old players who evaluate high enough will be allowed to move up into the farms for the spring season. 7 year old's who are not ready based on the evaluation will be registered into the rookie division for the spring season. Once all the players are ranked we hold a draft for teams in order to keep the competition fair and balanced. Farms is an instructional division where players will learn the rules of the game. The regular season is for the teams to improve and get ready for the playoffs. We cap off the season with the World Series which is played on Family Fun Day.
Farms Division is a draft so no requests can be made to play with friends during the spring season.
All 7 year old players are still eligible to play in the rookie division where they can put in requests to play with friends. Older divisions farms, minors and majors do not take requests.
All 9 yr old 3rd graders not ready for the minors are given the opportunity to stay and develop in the farms division.
Farms Sportsmanship Rule 1.0
Sportsmanship Rule 1.0 Farms Division
Farms Division:
To keep the game moving along at an even pace we have the bat around rule and the 5 walk rule. During the regular season depending on the score you as the team leading in the game may use the sportsmanship rule to end the inning at any point you feel shows sportsmanship to the other team. Please let your fellow farms manager know that you will be ending the inning after so and so bats or after a final run comes in. Again any point during an inning just let them know you will be doing this prior to making that decision. Please understand you can teach your team what sportsmanship is when they ask why you are ending an inning early and that even if the other team comes back it is not the end of the world as a competitive game is better then a blowout. You as an opposing manager should welcome a comeback as it will help improve your team when playing defense and how to stop them in the future. In this regard the team making the comeback is still regulated to the max batting around in an inning so it should help with evening out the score when necessary.
If you so choose when you are playing a fellow coach you may implement a 4-5 run rule per inning before you start the game. We are not mandating this but if you wish you may do so in the spirit of this rule. If you do implement this rule the last inning does not apply as it would rule out any final comeback for a victory on either side. Since time is always an issue you must designate the last inning before it starts preferably at the end of the 4th inning where you should know if you are going to play 5 or 6 innings.
Stealing bases when leading by a large number of runs can be considered unsportsmanlike and thus is under the discretion of each individual manager. A coach’s decision on the field will reflect on the team manager so please instruct them accordingly when you feel it is not necessary to steal bases. You may send a runner back to a previous base if you deem it necessary just let the other coach and umpire know what you are doing prior to doing it.
Scoring extra runs falls into this same category when leading by a sufficient amount of runs during the game. Managers are responsible to teach sportsmanship and cannot blame the runner or coach when they disregard this, it will and does reflect badly on each manager.
