The Minors Division is for our 9-10 year old players who have developed over the years and are ready to compete in a real baseball game atmosphere. In our division we have players at different skill levels and so we hold a draft to balance out the teams. Each team will have an opportunity to play in competitive games during the season. Our goal as coaches is to reemphasize the basic fundamentals while striving to have players excel during the season. We play our games at our Duckpond and Sandhill Fields and the bases are set at 65ft and they pitch at 46ft. We play one game during the week starting at 5:45 and on Saturdays between 9:00 and 3:00. Players will enjoy playing weekly with and against their friends and in front of their family members. We encourage full participation for all the players while keeping the game competitive. At this level all teams make the playoffs with a chance to win out and play for the World Series Title to be played on the turf at our Alken Ave Field Complex. Minors Sportsmanship Rule 1.0
Sportsmanship Rule 1.0 Minors Division
Minors Division:
To keep the game moving along at an even pace we have the bat around rule and the 5 walk rule. During the regular season depending on the score you as the team leading in the game may use the sportsmanship rule to end the inning at any point you feel shows sportsmanship to the other team. Please let your fellow minor manager know that you will be ending the inning after so and so bats or after a final run comes in. Again any point during an inning just let them know you will be doing this prior to making that decision. Please understand you can teach your team what sportsmanship is when they ask why you are ending an inning early and that even if the other team comes back it is not the end of the world as a competitive game is better then a blowout. You as an opposing manager should welcome a comeback as it will help improve your team when playing defense and how to stop them in the future. In this regard the team making the comeback is still regulated to the max batting around in an inning so it should help with evening out the score when necessary.
If you so choose when you are playing a fellow coach you may implement a 4-5 run rule per inning before you start the game. We are not mandating this but if you wish you may do so in the spirit of this rule. If you do implement this rule the last inning does not apply as it would rule out any final comeback for a victory on either side. Since time is always an issue you must designate the last inning before it starts preferably at the end of the 4th inning where you should know if you are going to play 5 or 6 innings.
Stealing bases when leading by a large number of runs can be considered unsportsmanlike and thus is under the discretion of each individual manager. A coach’s decision on the field will reflect on the team manager so please instruct them accordingly when you feel it is not necessary to steal bases. You may send a runner back to a previous base if you deem it necessary just let the other coach and umpire know what you are doing prior to doing it.
Scoring extra runs falls into this same category when leading by a sufficient amount of runs during the game. Managers are responsible to teach sportsmanship and cannot blame the runner or coach when they disregard this, it will and does reflect badly on each manager.
